easy it is to finally grasp the "big picture" of Scripture. When you order The
Great Adventure, you'll receive two videos (or four audiocassettes) of Jeff
Cavins' expert Biblical instruction. Whether on video or audio, the popular host of EWTN's Life on

that's not all. Each Great Adventure audio or video program kit also includes an

The Enemy. The Accuser. The Evil One. How real is he? Do we
really need to defend ourselves against a powerful, preternatural
opponent who conspires with the world and the flesh to hinder our
spiritual progress? How should Catholics in today's world view
the Scriptural notion of personified evil? In this provocative three-tape
set, powerful mission preacher and EWTN personality
Fr. Clement Machado, examines the existence of the devil in the
light of Scripture, the Catechism, Papal Encyclicals, the Fathers
of the Church and his own experience as a Catholic priest. With
an impressive depth of conviction, Father conclusively
demonstrates the constant teaching of Jesus Christ and His Church
that spiritual warfare is to be taken seriously by every
Christian. And reminds us that the spiritual battle against our own sinful nature and the wiles of the Tempter
are inseparable from the battle of prayer. In fact, when we pray
the words of Jesus in the Our Father, the evil we ask God to
deliver us from is not an abstraction, but Satan, who does all he
can to turn us away from prayer and from union with God. In a psychologically
oriented culture that denies the very existence of the devil and
even of sin, it's vitally important to realize that Satan is not
a part of human nature, but distinct both from us and from the
sin he leads us into. And so it is a grave error to exclude the
possibility of diabolical influence, as so many contemporary
Catholics are prone to do. Most importantly, he provides us with tried and true
means of putting on spiritual armor.
A thirteen hour video series by Dr. Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins, which is ideal for beginning Bible
studies because it gives the viewer an overview of salvation
history as seen in fourteen historical books of the Bible. Jeff
Cavins, whose show "Life on the Rock" appears on EWTN,
outlines the Scriptural setting and story and Scott plunges into
the theology with tremendous insights into the old and new
covenants (which was the subject of his doctoral dissertation).
You emerge from this series with an understanding of the Bible
timeline and of God's plan of salvation which gives you a basis
on which to put future knowledge of Scripture and theology. This
is a study you will want to repeat and share with your friends!
The dynamic duo present a Bible study that is perfect for those
just beginning the study of Scripture or for those with much
experience in God's word. Beginning with the book of Genesis,
they walk the viewer through salvation history and the creation
of man to the New Covenant age of Jesus, that shows the intricate
weave between the Old and New Testaments. They demonstrate the
truth of St. Augustine's saying that the Old Testament is
revealed in the New and the New Testament is hidden in the Old.
This in many other revealing insights will revolutionize your
ability to understand the Bible. After all, it is our family
book! To order the VIDEO version, click on the second order button below:

The Life of Christ in Scripture and Tradition by Matthew Arnold

A Bible study on the Book of Revelation, in which Dr. Scott Hahn
brings his covenantal-historical approach and theological insight
to a riveting eleven hour audio tape series. Scott examines the
Pretorist, Historist, Futurist and Idealist views of Revelation
and finds value in all, but argues that their is ample evidence
that the book is primarily prophecy fulfilled in the first
century. This does not, however, preclude future fulfillments
that are even greater. Scott examines the views of the early
Church Fathers and finds they mainly held an Idealist point of
view. This view contends that Revelation is basically a
description of the ongoing spiritual struggle faced by every
believer in their life and by the Church in every generation. The
struggle takes place both on earth and in heaven and involves the
world, the flesh and the devil and engages the angels,
archangels, principalities and powers, etc. Scott views prophecy
as the typological interpretation of history, which cannot be
understood except in terms of the Old Testament background and
the Covenant between God and man. In fact, it focuses on the
transition from the Old Covenant to the New, with the initial
fulfillment of Revelation coming in the first century. Ultimately
these prophecies point forward to the time when the Old Covenant
order will cease, when the whole of creation, the old heavens and
the old earth, will give way to the new heavens and the new earth
at the Second Coming of Christ.. This leads Scott into an
examination of the Rapture concept, which he shows to be a
relatively new theological interpretation. Scott also argues how
Catholic the book of Revelation is, calling attention to the its
liturgical character, the perpetuity of Christ's paschal
sacrifice, the central importance of the Church as the goal of
history, to the family of God, and the queenship of the Blessed
Virgin Mary, which he explores in an analysis that draws on the
work of many scholars. This series is so full of insight and
depth that it does not fail to answer many of the questions about
this important, but difficult, Book of Holy Scripture.
Revelation: The Second Coming by Fr. Alfred McBride
In this six-tape study, distinguished Scripture scholar
Fr. Alfred McBride examines the Book of Revelation to investigate
what God's Word has to say about the end times. He demystifies
the subject matter, which for many scholar's is too often based
upon speculation, rather than sound, Biblical scholarship.
Written while imprisoned on the Island of Patmos, St. John
intended this work to uplift his fellow believers by encouraging
perseverance to those persecuted by the Romans. How was the
infant Church to survive the imminent threat of annihilation at
the hands of their persecutors? It was only by hope rooted in
unshakeable faith. Fr. McBride unveils the powerful energy and
excitement contained in this final book of the Bible. By
carefully and systematically explaining each and every section,
you will finally be able to discover what the sacred author
originally intended to say. At the same time, you will learn how
to apply its important and unchanging message for today's times.
Rather than being dazed and confused, learn how to use this
intriguing Biblical book for your own spiritual benefit.
Originally aired on EWTN Television, is a treasury of insightful
commentary and rich meditations on this often times confusing,
yet mysterious Book of the Bible.
A five hour series on the epistle which answers questions like:
Why does Paul see the Church as "The Mystery of
Christ"? How should we understand predestination? What are
the teachings of St. Paul and the Church on this difficult
subject. What is God's design for marriage? How is the Husband
the "head" -- and the wife "the heart" -- of
the home? How can we "put on God's armor" to fulfill
our vocations as husbands and wives? How do we relate to angels?
How do they influence our everyday lives? Dr. Scott Hahn tackles
these tough questions by examining one of the most important of
all the Books in the New Testament. (This epistle has special
significance for Dr. Hahn because it was the subject of the last
Bible study he directed as a Protestant minister). It was St.
Paul's teaching about the centrality of the Church -- and it's
unity -- that lead Scott to his decision to enter the Church.
Ephesians contains some of the most profound and practical
theology in the early Christian Church. Drink deep from the
"wellspring of wisdom" contained in the six short
chapters of this New Testament letter. You will be enthralled by
the clear, sound and powerful teaching contained in this Bible
study.
This superb 15 hour Bible study on the Fourth Gospel demonstrates
the theology of John as Dr. Scott Hahn takes you through the
Gospel of love, verse by verse. He gives the background on how
verses are viewed differently by Catholics and Protestants and
discusses the heresies that developed as a result of
misinterpretations of John. Dr. Hahn shows how John's Gospel can
be termed the "Gospel of Sonship" and beginning with
the beautiful Prologue and walking through the life of our Lord
to His Resurrection, Dr. Hahn's commentary and insights will
bring the most theologically sophisticated of the Gospels into
focus for you. If a student can truly understand what is being
said in the Gospel of John, he or she has a firmer grasp of the
Christian message of life. Dr. Hahn discusses the concept of the
First Born in Hebrew society, the role of John the Baptist, why
the early Church fathers believe the wedding feast at Cana was so significant,
the meaning of the cleansing the Temple, why Christ answered Nicodemus in the
way He did, the role "signs" play in this Gospel, how Jesus curing on the
Sabbath reveals the work of the Son, the meaning of the multiplication of the
loaves, the image of Light and how Christ is the Light of the World, the curing
the man born blind, and the metaphor of the Good Shepherd. Finally, he discusses
why Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, Jesus' washing the feet of the
disciples, why Christ died and what Jesus meant when he said, "It is Finished."
Save! (15 tapes).
James is the sage of the New Testament, Scott says. What the Book
of Proverbs is to the Old Testament, the Letter of James is to
the New: Hard-headed Hebrew wisdom. James the sage pulls no
punches. He's not afraid to unite what most people divide: faith
and works, law and liberty, suffering and praise. Like no one
else James challenges the believer to walk his talk. Doesn't Paul
teach that we are saved by faith, not works? This
misunderstanding by Martin Luther led him to reject James as an
epistle of straw. However, Scott demonstrates that Paul and James
are not contradictory but complementary. Dr Hahn shows that James
understood the Christian life as spiritual warfare and spells out
a battle plan for Christians to overcome temptation. He takes
what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount and shows us how to
live it in everyday life, obeying the law out of love, not fear.
For James, the Holy Spirit makes law keeping possible, not easy.
James warns his readers of the pitfalls of anger, envy, and
slander. He describes the power of the tongue and the danger of
riches. Dr. Hahn concludes the series with a startling look at
the apocalyptic events of the first century that ended an age:
the destruction of Jerusalem. With his grasp of the Old
Testament, James could foresee these events and prepared his
readers for them. Scott relates James' words to our own time--the
potential trials awaiting us with Y2K (the millennium bug),
Christian persecution, global unrest -- and how we as Christians
should face them. Don't miss this study on the Letter of James.
It will open up a new dimension in your spiritual life!
Retrace St. Paul's spiritual work as he journeys through Asa
Minor and Europe with Fr. Mitch Pacwa, a Professor at the
University of Dallas and a popular figure on EWTN television.
Gain an essential understanding of Paul 's theology and pastoral
struggles, while answering historical questions like "who
were the Gnostics?" and "How did sexual immorality
threaten the early Church?" In this exciting six hour audio
series Fr. Pacwa makes Paul's New Testament correspondence come
alive with spiritual truths and gives us a better understanding
the early Church St. Paul did so much to build in places like
Corinth, Athens and Philippi. He provides the historical and
theological background to better understand St. Paul's message on
topics from the Eucharist to discerning the Spirit, from the
Second Coming of Christ to how praise and worship keep our eyes
focused on the person of Jesus Christ. Fr. Pacwa shows how St.
Paul's preaching offers practical solutions for facing today's
"crisis of truth."
Do you know
Church history well enough so as to defend the Catholic Faith?
Are you aware of the incredible workings of the Holy Spirit in
the life of the Early Church? How can the teaching and example of
the First Christians help you become a more effective evangelist?
In this easy- to-understand Bible study, The Acts of the
Apostles, Baptist convert and Catholic apologist Stephen Ray
offers a chapter-by-chapter examination of the only book in the
New Testament which continues the story of Jesus into the Early
Church. This inspired work, often referred to as the "Gospel
of the Holy Spirit", records the rich historical heritage of
Christianity. From Christ's Ascension to the spread of the Gospel
throughout Asia Minor, you'll be amazed as you learn how the Holy
Spirit carefully guided and directed the Apostles and their appointed successors. You will
also discover how these first followers of Jesus heroically
witnessed to the Gospel message, even to the point of shedding
their own blood. St. Luke, a close companion of St. Paul, wrote
Acts as a follow-up to his Gospel. Acts is an exciting account, historically real and
verifiable, of how Jesus' mandate
to preach the Good News to the ends of the earth was faithfully
fulfilled. And in it, St. Luke highlights the significant moments
and far-reaching missions of the Early Church that shaped and
defined the Mystical Body of Christ right down to this very day.
Stephen Ray's comprehensive and well-documented study introduces
you to the key people and places, struggles and strife that the
infant Church faced. It also provides a helpful framework for
understanding not only the information it contains but also other
significant facts gleaned from Paul's letters and other New
Testament texts. You will soon find out why Acts was written to
help define and defend the Faith. Explore the workings of the
Holy Spirit alive in the Early Church. Gain a renewed
appreciation and better understanding in order to participate
more fully in God's universal plan of salvation. The Acts of the
Apostles is sure to set your heart on fire with the power of
Pentecost once again. A great Bible Study!
God the Father and the
Prayer of Jesus Christ by Fr. Mitch Pacwa
Illuminate Yourself: a Bible Study on Indulgences by Dr. Scott Hahn
Indulgences-there is probably no Catholic doctrine so
misunderstood today, both inside and outside the Church. Yet the
Jubilee Year of 2000, was launched with the Pope's promise of
abundant grace through indulgences. This promise has many people
wondering, what are indulgences? Where do you find their use in
Scripture? Aren't they a thing of the past? Shouldn't we just
forget about them? The use of indulgences is, after all, the very
controversy that sparked the Protestant Reformation and shattered
Christendom.
Explode the Myths: Scott explodes the many myths and misconceptions about indulgences. Always the scriptural and historical detective, he begins by unpacking the Catechism of the Catholic Church and clearly lays out the Church's teaching on indulgences. Following the trail of clues back through time, he pores through the pages of Sacred Scripture to discover the doctrine of indulgences prefigured in the lives of Noah and Abraham and rooted in the teachings of Jesus and Paul. Moving his investigation from the Scriptural exploration to the historical, he spotlights the historical development of the doctrine and looks at how the practice and use of indulgences unfolded throughout the centuries within the family of God. He also discusses the early penitential practices of the Church and why indulgences played such an important and necessary role in the lives of the early Christians. Scott concludes this series by reviewing Pope John Paul II's Bull or Proclamation for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, "The Mystery of the Incarnation," and spells out how to go about gaining the indulgences. For ten years, listeners have requested a series on indulgences, but, Scott admits, "I didn't understand the doctrine very well myself, so I was almost embarrassed by it, though I accepted it on the Church's authority." But, once he looked deeply into the theology and practice of indulgences (few do more in-depth research than Dr. Hahn), he came to see it as something not only worth defending, but worth celebrating. Drink from the ocean of God's mercy. (6 audio tapes)
Have you ever been given an Evangelical tract attacking the
Catholic belief in the Sacraments? Are the Seven Sacraments
really only empty rituals or are they rich channels of grace?
Where in the Bible does it show that Christ actually instituted
these visible actions of the Holy Spirit?
In this exciting eight-tape series, The Seven Sacraments, you
will be introduced to the Catholic understanding of
"sacrament." Speaking from his own personal experience
as a former Baptist with a strong Biblical background, Steve
offers an interesting Biblical perspective by contrasting the
diverse Evangelical and Catholic views. He quotes extensively
also from the Early Church Fathers to confirm the long-standing
Church Tradition and teaching that is rooted in the very words
and actions of Christ and was faithfully practiced by the
Apostles in every century. The Catechism of the Catholic Church
teaches that the Sacraments are "powers that come from the
Body of Christ which is ever-living and life-giving." They
are referred to as "masterworks of God" that originate
in Jesus Himself and flow through the Church--Christ's Mystical
Body. Rather than being mere "ordinances" as most
Evangelical Christians understand them to be, the Sacraments are
specific channels of Jesus' healing, mercy and power. Their
fundamental purpose is to "sanctify men and give worship to
God." Now you can learn how to enjoy these incredible
"reservoirs of grace." The Sacraments, especially the
Eucharist and Reconciliation, are the keys to growing in personal
holiness and building up the Body of Christ. Discover how each of
the Sacraments have their own life-giving qualities covering the
whole of human existence--from the beginning of our life until we
die. You will also find why the Church affirms that for
believers, the Sacraments are necessary for salvation!
Set Your Soul on Fire: Let The Seven Sacraments help you come to a greater
appreciation of these powerful "signs of God's love." Begin to prayerfully
ponder how you can better incorporate these "spiritual tools" more fully into
your everyday life. Stephen Ray's unique presentations are sure to set your soul
on fire by demonstrating how the Sacraments can foster your desire to become a
saint. Sacraments are "powers that come forth" from the Body of Christ, which is
ever-living and life-giving. . . . They are "the masterworks of God" in the new
and everlasting Covenant.
Do the New Testament letters written for Christians in the first
century, say anything to us today? What can we learn from the
pastoral problems and theological questions of the Early Church? In this new eight-tape series,
you will be given a chapter-by-chapter exegesis or explanation of one of the most
important books in all of Sacred Scripture. First Corinthians,
one of Tim Staples top three favorite Pauline epistles, offers
incredible "nuggets of truth" crucial for Christian
apologists to discover the immense richness of the Faith and to
deepen their own spiritual life. At the time of St. Paul, Corinth
was one of the most important commercial centers of its day. As a
port city, it was also notorious for every kind of wickedness and
vice. First Corinthians shows how difficult it must have been to
live as a faithful believer in the midst of such a pagan world.
This Pauline epistle, probably written in Ephesus sometime in the
early 50's A.D., during St. Paul's third missionary journey,
highlights the intense problems of the local Church and St. Paul's fatherly
heart to instruct his spiritual children concerning fundamental
Christian beliefs, morals and manners. Using his full apostolic
authority, he addresses them with tenderness, clarity, and at
times, strict firmness. Like Paul's other letters, First Corinthians certainly dealt with many of the daily concerns
facing new Christians. Yet, the message of this famous epistle,
like that of the rest of his correspondence, is as fitting for us
today as for the Christians in the first century. In fact, Tim
states that this Biblical book could be referred to the
"Epistle to the Americans" because of its relevance for
the people of the United States today. And, St. Paul hardly ever
solves a particular problem plaguing believers without referring
to the most basic and enduring principles of the Christian Faith.
That is why its message is truly universal to all times,
cultures, and places.
Practical Value to You: Let this inspiring set teach you not only how to save your own
soul but also how to be Gods instrument for the salvation
of others. It will offers helpful
insights and practical suggestions to put your Christianity into
practice like never before. Learn from the enduring wisdom of St. Paul: "Be awake to all
dangers; stay firm in faith; be brave and be strong" (1 Cor 16: 13). This series will provide the practical advice and
necessary principles to show you how! (8 tapes).
